16 year old has lost confidence and has low self-esteem due to undiagnosed Irlen Syndrome
Imagine being told by teachers/counselors you are LAZY, you need to TRY HARDER and you will be put in SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSES. All because undiagnosed and untreated IRLEN SYNDROME makes WORDS DISAPPEAR, NUMBERS SHAKE and MUSICAL NOTES CHANGE into other ones – and no one believes you when you tell them what is happening!
16 year old Annabelle came to the Krist Samaritan Irlen Clinic, Houston/Galveston worrying that she had a mental illness due to her experience at school. Her CONFIDENCE had gone and she had very LOW SELF-ESTEEM. However, she actually worked so much harder than her peers to maintain A’s and B’s and her solution was immediate with the correct COLOR OF OVERLAY (clear, plastic sheet) placed over her work.
Irlen Syndrome is present in 14% of the general population including the GIFTED it is not a MENTAL ILLNESS though can result in mental health issues due to feelings of failure. Annabelle spoke of just putting down her head and crying when the words faded and she couldn’t make them come back. She suffered from WATERY EYES, due to eye strain, and had HEADACHES and FATIGUE every day due to an overloaded visual cortex.
In the Video Annabelle explains how with the overlay “for the first time ever I can see the words!” and how numbers and music change when they are on a white page.
