Big shout out to grandparents looking after grandchildren! It was great to be able to help 10 year old Keagen using the 50/50 Facebook Fundraiser, for those on low income or Medicaid. Half the cost of the Diagnostic appointment for Irlen glasses was paid using this fund. Many thanks to all the supporters of the Krist Samaritan Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston).
Keagen’s smile in the photo says it all. No longer frustrated by the effort needed to read words that (without the Irlen Glasses) go blurry and move! Keagan has severe Irlen Syndrome, which is a visual processing difficulty resulting in an overactive visual cortex. As well as his reading difficulties he suffered from visual stress, such as headaches and sore eyes. Anything white produced an instant headache as it was perceived as ‘too bright’. As explained in the session, white light is made from a rainbow of colors mixed together. The Irlen color worn as glasses ‘filters’ only the part of the light spectrum that is ‘bothering’ the brain meaning it can then process the light signal correctly and visual stress is alleviated.
