I recently received feedback from a mom about how her son's Irlen Filters had changed things for him.
A 14 year old with ADHD (who is a very talented footballer) and his mother came to see me recently. He had experienced a concussion when young and a recent eye injury.
This young man had to put in so much more effort to study than his peers as text moved and became blurry forcing him to re-read a few times to gain understanding.
During the Filter Diagnostic, to find a color combination for Irlen glasses, it also became clear that he was very sensitive to glare in the environment and could tell which combination of colors helped his eyes feel less strain and gave him the feeling of ‘calmness’. The final combination of color also took away the text distortions allowing him to read even under bright light.
I was delighted to gain feedback from the 14 year old’s mom once the Irlen glasses had arrived:
“Thought you would want to know my son has not taken off his glasses since we received them. He said his eyes and overall feeling of anxiety is way less and he’s looking forward to being able to wear them at school especially to read. Thank you so much for your help!”
