67 year old lady is prescribed Irlen Filters for the first time in her life. It is never too late to experience a comfortable world where light doesn't hurt.
Over the holidays it was my pleasure to screen and then prescribe Irlen tints for my eldest client, a 67 year old woman.
She has struggled all her life with light sensitivity, glare in the environment, mood swings and ADHD. Her work environment had been very stressful as she was a graphic designer and had to work on computers. She now “can’t do computers” as they make her nauseous and avoids book reading which makes her sleepy. She is an artist but finds it uncomfortable to look at some colors and draw on a white page.
As is the case with those with Irlen Syndrome she only realized how bad things were when she had the contrast of seeing the world through Irlen filters designed to calm her brain down.
“My eyes don’t hurt at all!”
“I can look at the light, I can’t wait to look at a sunset”
“Colors look sharp and pleasant to look at”
“I can see glare, but it does not hurt”
“The color magnifies the words”
When this client first came for a screening she did not think that her 3 important requests would be achieved a few days later by being prescribed Irlen filters. She had waited so long to:
1) Read from a computer
2) Pick up any book and read it
3) Feel calm under any light source (like she feels under her sewing light)
